Eds: reissuing,fixing spelling of Morcombe

"We are indebted to the police who worked extremely hard," Mr Morcombe said.

"The person that is responsible picked on the wrong family - we would never give up."

While the man who has been charged cannot be named until he faces court on Monday,
Mr Morcombe said he knew who the accused was.

"We have already seen the person that has been charged," he said.

"We don't want to make too much comment about the person that has been charged.

"We are just really pleased where we are and let the legal process take its course."

He said while the police had made an arrest they still did not know the whereabouts
of their son's remains.

The family is bracing itself that it could take several years for the case to be settled.

"We are aware it may still be a couple of years or even longer before this matter has
fully run out," Mr Morcombe said.

Qld: Irwin family helps legacy live

By Gabrielle Dunlevy

BRISBANE, Aug 30 AAP - A year after Steve Irwin's death, his precocious daughter Bindi
is recognised worldwide as the new symbol of the conservation movement he so passionately
built.

But the Crocodile Hunter's legacy not only lives on in his immediate family, and it's
not even something that's in the blood - it's an attitude, a lifestyle, and it's infectious.

Australia Zoo, the family's Sunshine Coast wildlife park, hired 70 new staff in the
past year, bringing the number of enthusiastic khaki-clad conservationists to 549.

Tempting though it might be to avoid the hype on the anniversary of Steve Irwin's death
next week, the khaki army has vowed to treat it like any other day, and continue fighting
for wildlife protection.

September 4 marks a year since a stingray fatally speared its barb into Steve Irwin's
chest while he was snorkelling on Batt Reef near Port Douglas.

His wife Terri and children Bindi, 9, and Robert, 3, will spend the anniversary in
the seclusion of north Queensland's Lakefield National Park - the last place they were
all together.

Steve's father Bob Irwin, who started Australia Zoo in 1970, has also sought solitude,
and will spend the next three weeks at the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve, near Weipa on
Cape York Peninsula.

This week, the 67-year-old was awarded the title of Queensland grandfather of the year.

Steve may no longer be at his side, but Bob continues to pass down his affinity with
animals, daring skills and a desire to inspire others to his six grandchildren.

Most recently at the reserve, he taught Bindi how to distinguish a bush turkey nest
from a much more threatening crocodile nest.

With great care and patience, he taught little Robert how to fish for barramundi.

And with another grandson, James Muscillo, the 18-year-old son of his daughter Joy,
Bob trapped crocodiles for a research project.

Since finishing school last year, James has already donned the khakis and green fleece
worn by Australia Zoo staff, and will make conservation his life's work.

It's no wonder, with so much inspiration to draw on.

With Bob, James trapped the biggest croc ever at the research base - a monster almost
five metres long.

They dubbed it "Stevo", and in the exuberant fashion of its namesake it almost tipped
over the research dinghy when it was released back into the water.

James' father Frank Muscillo, Australia Zoo's general manager, says they know they
are part of an extraordinary family.

Frank met Joy Irwin, his wife of 25 years, at university.

She was studying environmental science - as one would expect from an Irwin - and he
was studying a science degree.

It didn't occur to Joy that she should forewarn her boyfriend about her father's unusual
affection for reptiles and burgeoning menagerie before she took him home to meet the family.

"It was interesting," Frank said, laughing.

"Joy just took it for granted.

"For someone new to all that, it was certainly an experience to become part of the
family and learn all about wildlife and all the things they were doing."

Frank can also recall his introduction to Steve.

"He was just a nice guy, a normal bloke," he said.

"It was a while ago now, but you just knew he was something special, you know, he had
that gift with the animals just like his dad."

Australia Zoo became a veritable shrine in the days following Steve Irwin's death -
a focal point for the grief of thousands of fans.

On the anniversary, Frank, James and the other staff hope to have a low-key day.

The Irwins have nominated November 15 for the first annual Steve Irwin Day, a celebration
of his life and fundraiser for conservation.

The loss of the larger-than-life character has no doubt left a huge void for the family.

But while the present grief is hard to deal with, the future direction for all of the
Irwin clan, and the extended family at Australia Zoo, is clear.

"We just want to continue all our conservation work that Steve started and his family
started, and it will continue through Bob and through all his family," Frank said.

"We will keep working on the conservation side of things forever."

Fed: Fair Pay boss calls for moral framework

CANBERRA, Aug 7 AAP - The future prosperity of Australia's economy depends on a strong
moral framework, the head of the Fair Pay Commission says.

"No human economy can succeed without a substrate of ethical and cultural values,"

Professor Ian Harper told a Christian conference at Parliament House today.

Prof Harper was joined by a long list of politicians from both sides of the benches.

Former Nationals leader John Anderson, opposition foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd
and Liberal moderate Bruce Baird were among more than a dozen politicians who hosted the
conference.

While not speaking in a formal capacity in his job as the man who sets the federal
minimum wage, there was strong media interest in Prof Harper's speech.

Citing the prominent role of Beaconsfield reverend Frances Seen, Prof Harper said Christianity
came to the fore when necessary.

"It seems that, in spite of the seemingly relentless progress of secularism into the
homes and lives of everyday Australians, Christianity is still a quietly bubbling spring
not far below the surface of our culture," he said.

The Reverend Seen led nationwide prayers for the safe return of Beaconsfield miners
Brant Webb and Todd Russell after they were buried underground earlier this year.

Prof Harper said Christianity had been one of the great positive impacts on the nation
since colonisation.

However, he was careful not to position Christianity as a fix-all.

"This does not mean that economic hardship and suffering magically disappear with the
establishment of a Christianised culture," Prof Harper said.

Qld: Gaven is thorn in Beattie's side as state poll approaches

Qld: Gaven is thorn in Beattie's side as state poll approaches

By Julianna Stewart

GOLD COAST, April 1 AAP - Queensland Premier Peter Beattie is in a race to claw back
public support from the damaging Gaven by-election, ahead of the next State election less
than 12 months away.

The forced by-election on the Gold Coast has been a major distraction for the Labor
government and Mr Beattie admits it couldn't have come at a worse time.

Mr Beattie said there would be "political consequences" for the government if it lost
Gaven, following by-election defeats in the Brisbane-area seats of Chatsworth and Redcliffe
in August.

"That creates issues I know in terms of my leadership but I'm determined to continue
and determined to rebuild the government stocks," he said.

Mr Beattie was hot on the campaign trail at Pacific Pines State Primary School today,
showing public support for Labor candidate Phil Gray.

Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg has accused Labor of pork-barrelling with its
barrage of election promises this week.

Labor expects a drubbing in the poll, which was called after the resignation of former
Labor MP Robert Poole following sustained criticism of his extended overseas absences
from the electorate.

Mr Beattie, who during the three week campaign visited the seat just once before this
week, admitted public sentiment had indicated there were some areas where Labor needed
to lift its game.

"I've had a number of people say to me this morning that they want us to get on and
implement our health action plan...and speed that up and I've said that we'll do that
as quickly as possible," he said.

"This is the third term and we're going into the last 12 months of the term. In terms
of timing you couldn't get a worst possible time really for a by election."

Mr Gray, formerly Mr Poole's political campaign manager, believed he had a group of
strong supporters in the electorate and anticipated a better result in the state election
due to be held in February 2007.

"If I go down here, I'll be back up in the next state election...where I would favour
my chances greatly there," he said.

"The national party are basically irrelevant in this area and on the Gold Coast and
it would reinforce this irrelevancy if they could only get a single digit win in a by
election situation.

Labor's advertising campaign highlighted the differences between the Nationals and
the Liberals, questioning why the coalition had fielded a Nationals candidate in Dr Alex
Douglas to contest a seat which polling showed to be Liberal heartland.

"There's no doubt a liberal party candidate would have done better here had there been
a liberal," Mr Beattie said.

The poll will be a good barometer for the coalition, in its first electoral outing
since re-forming its partnership last September.

State Health Minster MORRIS IEMMA says women will have to give birth at Campbelltown
hospital until a new midwife-led model is put in place at Camden.

The changes come just two years after the state government spent $20 million redeveloping
Camden's maternity unit, which opened just before the March 2003 election.

But a dramatic decrease in births, and specialist shortages in areas such as anaesthetics,
have made the maternity ward unsustainable in the long term.

Camden Hospital will continue to deliver ante- and post-natal care services.

Afilias launches campaign to educate "brand builders" on ICANN new TLD program.

Free online resources outline opportunities for dot.BRAND TLDs in today's new Internet environment

SINGAPORE -- In a historic move, today the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved its long-discussed New gTLD Program. This program allows any brand or community of interest to apply for a unique "right of the dot" top-level domain. For example, instead of ".com," a brand like Nike could apply for ".nike" to reinforce its brand on the Web.

"The ICANN program creates opportunities for brand builders to re-invent how customers experience brands on the Internet," said Roland LaPlante, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Afilias. "However, there are a variety of challenges in applying for, winning and running a dot.BRAND Web space. One significant issue is time. The program application period starts on January 12, 2012, and will end on April 12, 2012. Once the application window is closed, the opportunity to apply for a dot.BRAND TLD is gone. There are no firm plans to accept new applications after this round of submissions closes."

To help global brand builders understand the complex ICANN application process -- as well as the many benefits of owning and operating a unique dot.BRAND TLD -- Afilias has created an easy-to-digest video and e-book to explain the program.

"Afilias is ideally positioned to offer this information," LaPlante said. "Afilias is among the world's largest providers of diverse domain registry services, and has supported the applications for and launches of numerous new TLDs under ICANN processes -- including the highly successful .INFO, .MOBI and .ASIA domains. This also means we are uniquely qualified to help organizations apply for new dot.BRAND TLDs as well as launch and manage new dot.BRAND Internet spaces."

Organizations interested in pursuing a dot.BRAND investment will need to act quickly to assemble a team of experts, which will likely include the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), a brand advisor, the ad agency, a trademark lawyer and a domain registry technology partner. Properly assembled, this team will be able to prepare and submit an application that will meet ICANN's stringent requirements and be awarded their own dot.BRAND.

STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT ADVISES EXTRA PRECAUTIONS FOR EXTENDED HEAT EXTENDED SEVERE HEAT INCREASES RISKS TO PEOPLE AND PETS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE NEWS RELEASE.

BALTIMORE, MD -- The following information was released by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH):

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) is advising Marylanders to take extra care during the third day of extended extreme heat conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Maryland's National Capital, Central and Southern regions today from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM. Area jurisdictions have activated or will activate their heat response plans.

"Each consecutive day of severe heat increases the health risks for our most vulnerable Marylanders, especially seniors, children and anyone with serious underlying health conditions," said Frances Phillips, DHMH Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services. "We urge everyone to take precautions for their families, pets and any neighbors who might be at higher risk because of their health or home conditions."

During the first day (May 30, 2011) of the current severe heat event, emergency rooms across the state experienced a total of 51 visits due to heat related or dehydration complaints, according to Maryland's biomonitoring system known as ESSENCE. There have been no confirmed heat related deaths in Maryland this season. There were 32 confirmed heat related deaths in the summer of 2010; six heat related deaths in 2009; 17 in 2008 and 21 in 2007.

Marylanders in need of a cooling center or assistance can contact their Local Health Department for information by phone or the internet by going to the DHMH Heat Related Illness web page at: http://www.dhmh.maryland.gov/diseases/heatrelated.html .

DHMH is making available brochure on protecting yourself in the heat at http://www.dhmh.maryland.gov/diseases/pdf/Heat_Emergency_Brochure_050611_1.pdf

Information in Spanish is also available at http://www.epa.gov/aging/resources/factsheets/itdhpfehe/itdhpfehe_spanish_100-F-08-076.pdf

Anyone at any time can suffer from heat related illness, but some people are at greater risk than others.

Infants and young children,

Youth athletes,

People over age 65,

People with certain health conditions such as mental illness, diabetes, and hypertension.

IMPORTANT: If you take prescription medication, ask your doctor if you need to take extra care in hot weather.

Heat-related illnesses, like heatstroke, occur when your body can't keep itself cool. The body normally cools itself by sweating. As sweat evaporates from the skin, it lowers body temperature. But on hot, humid days, moisture in the air keeps sweat from evaporating fast enough. When this happens, body temperature can rise and you may start to feel sick and could lead to:

Heat cramps - These are short, severe cramps in the muscles of the leg, arm or abdomen which can happen during or after heavy exercise in extreme heat. Heavy sweating uses up the body's supply of salts, which causes the cramps. Heat cramps also may be a symptom of heat exhaustion.

Heat exhaustion - heat exhaustion occurs when a person spends time in a hot environment without drinking enough fluids. Symptoms include extreme thirst, fatigue, weakness, clammy skin, nausea or vomiting, and rapid breathing.

Heat stroke - the most serious heat-related illness, heat stroke occurs when body temperature rises too rapidly, to as much as 106 [degrees] F or higher within 10 to 15 minutes. Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not provided. Symptoms of heat stroke include red, hot, and dry skin, no sweating, and rapid, weak pulse.

Prevention and preparation are keys to avoiding heat related illness (Spanish language resources included below):

When the heat index is high, stay indoors as much as possible.

Move to the lower floors of your building when inside.

Schedule outdoor activities for cooler times of the day, before 10:00 AM and after 6:00 PM

Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing,

Drink plenty of water before starting any outdoor activity.

During outdoor activities, take frequent breaks and drink water or other fluids every 15 to 20 minutes, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Don't leave infants, pets or children inside a parked car.

Dress infants and children in cool, loose fitting clothing and shade their faces with hats or an umbrella.

Fans will not prevent a heat-related illness. Take a cool shower or bath, or move to a room with air conditioning.

Check on adults you know that are at-risk for heat-related illness at least twice a day.

Constantly monitor children for signs of heat-related illnesses.

Household pets may also be vulnerable to health related illness. Precautions and common sense can help:

Prior to a heat emergency, make sure you have ample: pet food, bottled water, medications, veterinary records, cat litter/pan, can opener, food dishes, first aid kit and other supplies.

Never leave a pet alone in a car with the windows up.

Never leave a pet leashed at home unsupervised.

Limit your pet's exercise to the morning or evening when temperature and heat index is not as high as during the late morning and afternoon. Bring water while exercising pet.

Limit the distance and intensity of your pet's exercise.

Ensure that fresh, cool water is available at all times for your pet.

Ensure that air conditioning is available for your pet if left indoors.

FIRST Names Time Warner Cable Chairman and CEO to Board of Directors.

Glenn Britt, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Time Warner Cable has been elected to the Board of Directors of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.

The group said Glenn Britt is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Time Warner Cable (TWC). In November 2009, he was named one of five corporate US executives appointed by President Barack Obama to a task force charged with strengthening America's economic competitiveness by increasing the scale, scope and impact of private-sector and philanthropic support in improving American students' proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

"FIRST is very fortunate to receive the support of some of our nation's most iconic corporations, from industrial giants who have shaped technology for a hundred years to Internet and media companies that have fundamentally changed our way of life," said Dean Kamen, President of DEKA Research & Development and the founder of FIRST. "We are very proud of the support we are now receiving from the media and popular culture. Glenn Britt's experience in the arenas of both STEM education and media combine in his enormous personal commitment to ensuring that future generations are given every opportunity to be educated and inspired by science. We are pleased to welcome him to the FIRST Board of Directors as we strive to spark the next generation's passion for technology and engineering."

According to a release, Time Warner Cable is focused on working with FIRST to reach new audiences and to drive the demand for STEM education through afterschool robotics programs and other activities outside of the classroom. In addition to a Web site called "Connect a Million Minds" (CAMM, connectamillionminds.com),TWC is using public service announcements (PSAs) and local community events and employee engagement to raise awareness of the need for FIRST robotics and more STEM resources. The Web site highlights FIRST robotics competitions around the country and encourages volunteers and mentors to support teams of young participants.

TWC has provided financial, in-kind, and personnel support, investing countless volunteer hours in FIRST. The company has produced PSAs, given grants, and provided volunteers in much needed areas to assist FIRST in providing all students with an experience that cultivates a passion for science and engineering.

"Glenn's proven leadership, extensive management and operations experience, and his personal commitment to STEM initiatives adds significantly to the depth of our growing organization," said Walt Havenstein, FIRST chairman. "We welcome the opportunity to advance our mission through the world of social and interactive technologies to increase awareness and inspire young people to be science and technology leaders with the benefit of Glenn's counsel and oversight."

TWC is a sponsor of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Midwest Regional event and supports 10 FRC teams, 8 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams and 37 FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams in 7 states.

The group noted that Britt has been the driving force behind TWC's aggressive deployment of video services, such as video-on-demand, high-definition television and digital video recorders. Britt has guided the growth and increased penetration of Time Warner Cable's residential high-speed data product and has overseen the efforts of Road Runner Business Class, the company's commercial broadband service. He has also championed the launch and growth of Time Warner Cable Digital Phone and development of new wireless products such as Road Runner Mobile.

Glenn Britt joined Time Inc. in 1972 in the controller's department and rose to VP and Treasurer of Manhattan Cable Television, Inc. (1974), Finance Director for Time-Life Books' Iran Project (1977), VP of Network and Studio Operations for Home Box Office, Inc. (HBO), and Director of Business Development of Time Inc.'s video group (1980).

He is active on industry boards and community organizations, serving on the boards of directors and has received many industry honors, including induction in Broadcasting & Cable's Hall of Fame; Cable Positive's Joel G. Berger Award; the NCTA's Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership; The Media Institute's American Horizon Award; the NAMIC Stanley B. Thomas Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award; and the Kaitz Foundation Diversity Champion Award. In 2010, he was named Humanitarian of the Year by the UJA-Federation of New York.

Time Warner Cable is a cable operator in the U.S., with well-clustered systems located in five geographic areas - New York State (including New York City), the Carolinas, Ohio, southern California (including Los Angeles) and Texas.

Inventor Dean Kamen founded FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people.

Cox Communications Readies to Support IPv6.

Trials begin with Cox Business Customers

ATLANTA, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications announced today that it is prepared to support the next evolution of Internet addressing, Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). The company is conducting active trials with Cox Business customers and plans to extend the trials to its residential product line in the future.

Similar to the 7-to-10-digit phone number migration in large metro areas, with the rapid growth of online devices and applications, the current Internet address schema (IPv4) is approaching its limits. IPv6 has a robust address space and consists of 128 bits as compared to 32 bits in IPv4 - resulting in approximately 340 undecillion (5 x 10(38)) IPv6 addresses versus the 4.2 billion available through IPv4.

"By migrating to IPv6, Cox is future-proofing its network, systems and products," said Jason Weil, principal architect, Cox Communications. "As a digital voice, video, Internet and commercial service provider, we are committed to a seamless transition, so our customers experience the same service in the future that they enjoy today. Cox's dual-stack IPv6 deployment allows customers the ability to continue leveraging their current IPv4 capability while incrementally adding the IPv6 support required for the next generation of network devices and applications."

IPv4 is expected to reach its limit in 2012, when all Internet customers must begin slowly migrating their devices and content to IPv6. Cox's core network is fully IPv6 compliant and the company is transitioning the network edge and support infrastructure to meet customer demand.

Cox Business provides voice, data and video services for nearly 250,000 small and regional businesses, including healthcare providers, K-12 and higher education, financial institutions and federal, state and local government organizations. According to Vertical Systems Group, Cox Business is the fourth largest provider of business Ethernet services in the U.S. based on customer ports and was ranked highest among small/midsize business data service providers in J.D. Power and Associates 2010 U.S. Major Provider Business Telecommunications Study(SM). Cox is currently the seventh largest voice service provider in the U.S. and supports more than 730,000 business phone lines. NCP engineering Announces Release of Expanded IPSec VPN Secure Client for PCs and Handheld Devices Major Upgrade Available in UK on 5th December.

M2 PRESSWIRE-20 November 2008-NCP engineering GmbH: NCP engineering Announces Release of Expanded IPSec VPN Secure Client for PCs and Handheld Devices Major Upgrade Available in UK on 5th December(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:20112008

NCP engineering GmbH a leading provider of endpoint security and VPN solutions, today announced the 9.1 version of the NCP Secure Enterprise Client. Available in the UK and across Europe on 5th December, this major upgrade to NCP's universal IPSec VPN client will provide users a flexible, intuitive, bundled client for any Windows-based (Mobile, CE, XS/Vista/32/64-bit) or Symbian system (S60 3rd Edition). The client is seamlessly compatible with any gateway on the market. The bundled solution is equipped with a dynamic personal firewall, intuitive and user-friendly GUI, data encryption, Friendly Net Detection, and one-time password token and certificate support through a public key infrastructure (PKI). It can also be integrated with a network access control (NAC) component to ensure highly secure access to central data networks. New features include: -- Wireless Service Provider Roaming (WISPr) Support As a major European hotspot login protocol, VPN support of WISPr allows any device to connect to a hotspot without having to logon through an internet browser. A device will simply have access for any application on that device through the VPN, making logon and network interaction faster for the user.

-- Multiple Certificate Support Mobile workers often need to connect to several VPNs, requiring many certificates to authorise the device to the network. This function stores and automatically configures the single VPN client for any previously authorised certificates, increasing logon speed and simplifying VPN access.

-- Streamlined Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Card Support 3G wireless connection speed for laptops is on the rise in Europe through major carriers such as AT&T. This function enables the client to maintain a VPN during idol and standby periods where typically the connection is lost. The 'wake up' time for a laptop is increased as well.

-- Budget Manager for Wireless Minutes Enables network administrators or users to monitor the costs of all available VPN connection types, including UMTS, GPRS and WLAN, and enforce limits on device airtime or cost. Users can configure dollar or minute budgets according to basic provider rates. If these set limits are exceeded, users will receive warning notices, or their VPN connection attempts will be hindered. The new component of the software also allows for the restriction or disabling of roaming. The NCP Secure Enterprise Client provides one major update for users with the NCP Secure Enterprise Management to extend central policy support and network access management.

-- Push / Manage Software Updates through LAN Connection Enables network administrators to push and manage NCP software updates, configurations and certificates to any device on the network using an NCP client, with a VPN connection or without.

The service will enable United Natural Foods to virtually eliminate data center downtime caused by access issues and enhance application performance by consolidating all voice, data and video traffic.

AT&T's ACCU-Ring architecture will protect United Natural Food's critical applications from being disrupted or degraded in quality because of loss of signal or transmission impairment because it employs a dual-fiber self-healing ring with a primary and protected path. By modernizing network access services from copper to fiber, United Natural Foods will be able to more effectively control costs and position itself for newer access technologies that will scale with the company as its communications needs grow.

"AT&T's solution gives us the confidence and security of private network services and the protection of high reliability for our mission-critical applications, helping our business run more effectively," said Ken Greene, Vice President, IT Compliance and Logistics. "We are now well-positioned with AT&T to take advantage of future technologies."
