Fed: Howard reckless with role of DSD in Iraq - Howard

Opposition Leader MARK LATHAM says Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has recklessly outed
the role of one of Australia's spy agencies in Iraq.

Mr HOWARD yesterday tabled a letter from RON BONIGHTON, head of the top secret Defence
Signals Directorate.

The letter confirmed that Mr LATHAM had received a basic briefing on the directorate's
operations but there was no focus on Iraq.

Mr HOWARD accused Mr LATHAM of fabricating the idea he had received briefings on Iraq.

Mr LATHAM has told ABC Radio that Mr HOWARD's tabling of the letter was a very reckless
piece of politics that increases the risk for Australians in Iraq.

He denies he chose to out the directorate and the Australian Secret Intelligence Service
and naming them in parliament was Mr HOWARD's doing.
