Tas: Hobart unsure when to celebrate 200th birthday

HOBART, Feb 22 AAP - Australia's second oldest capital city, Hobart, is preparing for
its 200th birthday party, but isn't sure when it should celebrate.

It could be September 1803 when an abortive attempt was made to found a settlement
on the eastern bank of the Derwent River or it could be the following February when a
better site on the opposite bank was set up.

The Tasmanian government has called for a briefing note on the dilemma.

At this stage it's understood to favour the later date - for reconciliation …
